Coomera watering hole

27.8464° S, 153.3440° E

The Coomera watering hole project, a place to share experiences with friends + family.

It’s a place to watch the cricket tests in summer and the Bells Beach Pro at Easter.

The bar looks out over a pool and the seaway beyond. A large glazed awning window provides an outdoor bar that connects to the outdoor areas. The bar is inserted into a previously unused double height formal dining room. An analysis of the double height volume found it to be unnecessarily large.

The premise. A double height space is out of scale for a small cosy bar. To address the scale issue a mezzanine level was inserted into the space. The bar is nestled in the nook below. The new mezzanine level creates a reading space during the day + additional sleeping options come night. A secret entry to the mezzanine adds to the privacy + mystique of the mezzanine level.
